Description

The Portuguese government introduced a 10-year tax exemption window for foreigners who establish themselves in Portugal.

This also includes retirees who move to the country and receive retirement or pension income.

The benefit applies to any non-national citizen who chooses to live in Portugal and whose income comes from a country that has a double taxation agreement with Portugal.

If you are retired and receive a retirement pension, you can now live in Portugal for 10 years without having to pay any income tax on your pension during that period. However, you may still be liable for capital gains tax.

What all of this means is that Portugal has become an attractive tax haven in the heart of Europe.

With its excellent climate, beautiful beaches, magnificent golf courses, fantastic property purchase opportunities, and excellent quality of life, Portugal is certainly a country to consider for your retirement.
